What Audhio Does
Audhio is a Chrome extension that converts webpage text into spoken audio with synchronized highlighting. This policy explains what data the extension accesses and how it's handled.
Data We Access
When you click play on a webpage, Audhio:
- Extracts the text content from the current page to convert it to speech
- Sends that text to our server for audio generation
We do not access text on any page until you actively trigger playback. We do not collect your browsing history, personal information, or any data from pages you don't play.
How Text Is Processed
When you play a page, the extracted text is sent to our caching server (hosted on Cloudflare Workers). Our server checks if audio for that text already exists in our cache. If not, it sends the text to Inworld AI's text-to-speech API to generate audio, then caches the result.
Cached audio is stored using a hashed version of the text — not linked to you, your browser, or any personal identifier. The same text from any user produces the same cache entry.
What We Store
On our servers:
- Generated audio files (WAV) stored in Cloudflare R2
- Cache metadata (text hash, voice used, timestamp) stored in Cloudflare D1
- The original text that was converted, for cache lookup purposes
Cached content — both the extracted text and generated audio — is automatically deleted after 90 days. No manual action is required on your part.
On your device:
- Your voice preference (which voice you selected)
- Your playback speed preference
No tracking pixels, no analytics, no advertising.
Data Retention
Cached text and audio are stored for a maximum of 90 days, after which they are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers. This applies to all cached content regardless of how often it has been accessed.
Preferences stored on your device (voice selection, playback speed) remain until you uninstall the extension or clear your browser storage.
Accounts
Audhio currently requires no account to use. We plan to introduce optional accounts in a future version to support features like syncing preferences and managing a subscription. If you create an account, we will collect your name and email address solely for account management purposes.
Third-Party Services
- Cloudflare (Workers, D1, R2) — hosts our caching infrastructure
- Inworld AI — provides text-to-speech audio generation
Text you play is sent to these services solely for the purpose of generating audio. We do not sell, share, or use this data for any other purpose.
Permissions Explained
- Storage — to save your voice and speed preferences on your device
- Content scripts (all sites) — to extract page text and apply synchronized highlighting when you click play. The extension only activates when you explicitly trigger playback.
Excluded Sites
Audhio is automatically disabled on streaming platforms (YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, Hulu, Disney+, and others) to respect content rights.
Children's Privacy
Audhio does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
